Jacob by Amanda Powell

So this is Jacob, and my first set of "official" photos after a looooong hiatus. We took to the streets of downtown Bellingham for a short but uber successful senior session. Jacob is a friendly, but quiet fella who likes to ride invisible flying bicycles. You'll see what I mean in the slideshow ;-) He's a gifted theater performer, an excellent student, and plays a mean Scrabble game. Downtown Bellingham, with its subdued excitement, seemed like a fitting location for this guy.

I've decided this place is basically a portrait photographer's dream.  There're so many fantastic backgrounds, both natural and manmade, and it seems completely possible to find a location to suit just about anyone. And the light , oh my word, the light!!!!!

Looking forward to stretching my photography muscles and getting out there more to explore! Interested in coming along? Fill out the messaging form on my contact page and I'll be in touch!

Kaylee by Amanda Powell

I try usually to not place too much attention on a person's physical attributes. However, I do work in a visual medium where the focus is most definitely on appearance. This doesn't have to be a negative thing. There are so many shades, shapes, colors, and textures to people, individual things that make us each unique. I believe this variety can be used to show something deeper. Photography doesn't have to just be a surface-level medium. Whatever positive attribute I focus on should, hopefully, reveal something more about the subject. That's the goal anyway. To make deeper, less superficial portaits of every person I photograph.

All of this being said, let's get back to the initial point I want to make:

Kaylee has amazing red hair. Long, and stunning, and a perfect frame for her welcoming (and usually smiling) face.  She has deep brown eyes, that, when the light catches them just right, turn a similar color to her hair. All beautiful physical characteristics, made all the better by the person she is.

This girl is on fire in the best way. I hope you see what I'm talking about.

Kaylee, best of luck with your photography business, family, and up coming marriage. 2016 will be a big year for you, I know it! Lets keep in touch :-)

Beryl by Amanda Powell

This girl. I've met many who know her. All of them love her.

She's the kind of person who draws others in by her sweet smile, but also by the conviction behind those dark eyes.

She is a person of purpose, action, and accomplishment. Beryl, while not from the US, has immersed herself in this culture in such a way to leave her mark. She has the makings of greatness.

My sister graduated this year. I had the privilege of shooting her senior portraits, which turned out quite unique. We shot the black and white images in my living room, then headed to a local park for some fun fall color, to match her golden hair and deep hazel eyes.

My sister is a beautiful person. Her heart is huge and her disposition sunny. She's going into nursing, which couldn't be more perfect with her personality.
